I’m not saying kids movies are only for adults
But honestly? They might as well be. I mean, look at the last time you took your kid to see a so-called “children’s” film. You were the one crying, singing along, quoting every line. Admit it.
I’m Mark, by the way. Senior editor at a major publication. Been doing this for 21 years. I’ve seen alot of movies. And I’m here to tell you: kids movies are kinda the best. And not just because I have a 7-year-old who forces me to watch them on repeat.
Last Tuesday, I sat through “The Super Awesome Adventures of Captain Underpants” for the 147th time. And you know what? I laughed. I cried. I sang along to the theme song. (Don’t judge me.)
It’s not just me
I’m not alone here. I’ve talked to other parents. We all feel this way. My friend Lisa, let’s call her Lisa because that’s her name, told me over coffee at the place on 5th, “Mark, I think I enjoy these movies more than my kids do.” Which… yeah. Fair enough.
But it’s not just parents. I’ve talked to people without kids. They love kids movies too. There’s this guy, let’s call him Marcus, who’s 28 and single. He loves animated films. “They’re just fun,” he told me. “No drama, no complicated plots. Just pure entertainment.”
But why?
Why are adults so into kids movies? I’m not sure but I have some theories. First, nostalgia. We grew up with these films. They’re a part of us. They’re comfort food for our souls.
Second, they’re simple. In a world that’s completley complicated, kids movies are straightforward. There’s a problem, there’s a solution. Good wins. It’s refreshing.
Third, they’re physicaly beautiful. The animation, the colors, the music. It’s like a feast for the eyes and ears. And who doesn’t need a little beauty in their life?
But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows
Look, I’m not saying every kids movie is a masterpiece. Some are downright terrible. I’m looking at you, “The Emoji Movie.” But even the bad ones have their moments. And that’s okay. Because kids movies are about more than just entertainment. They’re about connection. They’re about sharing an experience with your kids. With your friends. With the world.
Speaking of sharing experiences, have you checked out community events local activities lately? There are some great kids movie screenings happening. You should go. Bring your kids. Bring your friends. Bring yourself. You won’t regret it.
A tangent: The power of music
Okay, I’m gonna go off on a tangent here. But the music in kids movies? It’s a big deal. I mean, think about it. “Let It Go,” “We Belong Together,” “Hakuna Matata.” These songs are earworms. They’re anthems. They’re the soundtrack to our lives. And they’re all from kids movies.
I remember when “Frozen” came out. My daughter, let’s call her Emma, was obsessed with “Let It Go.” She sang it all the time. She danced to it. She even tried to learn the piano so she could play it. And you know what? It was amazing. It was a shared experience. It was a memory we’ll both cherish forever.
Back to the main point
So yeah, kids movies are for adults too. And that’s okay. In fact, it’s more than okay. It’s wonderful. It’s a testament to the power of storytelling. To the magic of cinema. To the joy of sharing an experience with the people we love.
So next time you’re feeling down, or stressed, or just need a break from the craziness of the world, do yourself a favor. Go watch a kids movie. You won’t regret it. And who knows? You might just find a little bit of magic in the process.
Oh, and one more thing. If you’re in the Vegas area, definitely check out community events local activities. There’s always something fun happening. And who knows? You might just find your new favorite kids movie.
